Originally wrote this song as an invective against a friend. It was fun and funny and the melodies were gorgeous and I can’t believe I cooked this up in a storm of fury, but I did.
When I decided to remake this into a proper pop song, I had such trouble with the chorus. It took me several months to let go of the original chorus melody in order to fit in a simpler one requiring less syllables.
I think, subconsciously, the key analogy here is heavily inspired by a Perfume Genius’ lyric: “I wear my body like a rotted peach/ You can have it if you handle the stink" (from "My Body").
I feel like this song shares the same disregard for the self. It's the natural conclusion to emotional numbness. You suddenly realise you’ve been stripped of your virtues; you’ve been feeding the vultures for nothing but their attention, and to what end? They only ever want the flesh!

lyrics
I stake myself on a mine again
On guard, I’m gardening, I
Climb supine men, I’m vining
Find surprising silver linings
Sanctuary, sanctuary
Body is a temple, so I’m fucking missionaries
Maybe bury them in my epistolaries, but
Soliloquies are better than obituaries so
I could be your sweet summer son
I could be your peaches and plums
Scraping flesh off the pit of the pain
All of my heartache in haste we’ve abated
You taste it and waste it away
Stone fruit
I’m stone fruit
I’m stone
Stone fruit
I’m stone fruit
I’m stone
Stone fruit
I’m stone fruit
I’m stone
(Stone fruit, I’m stone fruit, I’m)
Oh, suck away my heart, why don’t you?
Sell me your magenta shades
Don’t do the math, won’t solve my issues
Just leave me where I‘m lain
And if I never grow emotional
Would you believe I still get hurt?
I still marvel your proportions so
Come twist my head off
Let me show you how I turn
Soliloquies are better than obituaries though
Soliloquies are better than obituaries so
I could be your sweet summer son
I could be your peaches and plums
Scraping flesh off the pit of the pain
All of my softness is gravely degrading but
I could be your sweet summer sun
I could be your peaches and plums
Scraping flesh off the pit of the pain
All of my heartache in haste we’ve abated
You taste it and waste it away
Stone fruit
I’m stone fruit
I’m stone
Stone fruit
I’m stone fruit
I’m
I could be your sweet summer son!
I could be your peaches and plums!
Scraping flesh off the pit of the pain
All of my softness is gravely degrading!
But I could be your sweet summer son!
I could be your peaches and plums!
Scraping flesh off the pit of the pain
All of my heartache
You taste it and waste it away!
All of my heartstrings are rotted away
(Stone fruit, I’m stone fruit
I’m stone fruit, I’m stone
Stone fruit, I’m stone fruit
I’m stone fruit, I’m stone
Stone fruit, I’m stone fruit
I’m stone fruit, I’m stone...)
