This strayed the least from how I initially envisioned it. I think I was aping Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” with OutKast’s “Hey Ya”. Definitely one of the poppiest pop songs I’ve ever done. I love the space in the verses and the pedagogical crescendo as instruments are added, then pulled away, then added, then pulled away. If I’m gonna make pop music, it’s gonna be the poppiest damn pop music you’ll ever hear!
This song’s about staying up all night doing drugs, fucking nocturnal randos. It’s about being reckless and feeling free, while a fatalistic Greek chorus looks down on me and foretells my demise. It’s about taking pleasure in being objectified—in being guiltless—a pleasure that quickly becomes hollow by the next song.
